The Best Success Achieved When I Was 17 Years
Leaders don’t wait for anyone to agree with them before they pursue their dreams. People might say it’s impossible or think that they are crazy. But nothing can or will stop them from achieving what them reaching their dreams.
I was the president of the electronic association at 17 years old. It was one of the most boring extra co-curriculum activities in high school. Members of the association are just required to finish soldering 2 electronic projects for the whole year.
That was my first time and I have no idea and experience to be a president. However, I decided to bring participation and extraordinary values by adding one more activity- “Design their own electronic project”. I got so excited and I share this idea with 2 of our association consultant and 10 of my committee members. These are the response I got:
1 of the consultant scolded me and said “Give that up! It’s too hard for us and students. They can’t do it. We never did this since the association is created. Don’t give me and everyone else extra troubles!”
The other consultant said he won’t agree or disagree.
2 of the committee members strongly object and others kept quiet.
I was very disappointed but I won’t allow those to stop me. I pull out a 1 year schedule of our association and start planning all the activities to fit that activity in. I proposed and get rejected for six months. After six months, all the committee members are willing to step aside and observe, 1 of the consultant who originally disagreed said he will stop me once everything goes wrong and the other consultant supports me.
I announced the project to the members and the consultants start to teach. After teaching, all the students start to design their own project. They surrounded the consultants and me to ask question. Consultants who disagreed started to teach with passion. Committee members who are just observing started to teach and support everyone. Students who are normally boring get interested start to participate. These surprised me and it went better than what I’ve expected.
After one and a half month, they finish both designing and soldering their own project. That’s a huge breakthrough for everyone, the association and me. The way they treat their activities and works change. They achieved one of the highest score in their activities. No one quit on me and quit on themselves.
I got a lot from this experience. I get to realize “Leaders don’t have agreement when they first started their dream. They stand in the face of no agreement and continue influencing others to follow them.”
