Pointing Out Mistakes Powerfully

If you are interested on how to become a millionaire fast, you should learn how to build a team that you can leverage. One individual’s time and effort are limited. With a team of people, you’ll build wealth and become a millionaire faster.

However…

If you are a leader who leads long enough, you’ll find this problem very difficult to solve: Pointing Out Someone’s Mistakes. Someone in your team might accidentally brought problems or failure by mistakes. Should you point out his mistakes? What if he or she takes it personal and feel guilty or angry? What if pointing out mistakes will cause more harm then benefits?

There’s a solution for it. You can point out their mistakes with a different method. With this method, they are motivated and get to see how they can improve from this mistake! There are 5 steps to this approach:

1. Stop Scolding Or Punishing
Most leaders will get angry and start scolding their team members when they did something wrong. Doing this makes no difference to them and they might hate you or try to cause more damage behind your back. It makes the situation worse. Stop trying to scold them or punish them and start to do step 2.

2. Get Clear What Happen
Ask them what actually happen and start to understand the situation. Many people don’t do that because scolding save time and effort. Making things clear needs takes more time and effort but it works. When you get things clear, you’ll understand “Most workers don’t create mistakes on purpose. They have good intention with just wrong actions!”

3. Appreciate Their Intention
When you appreciate their good intention that try to contribute to the team, they will not feel guilty anymore. When the feeling of guilt is gone, they are opened and ready to listen about their mistakes. Most workers can’t listen to their mistakes because they feel guilty when they cause trouble and they feel even guiltier when they get scolded.

4. Tell them straight
When they are open and got interested with their mistakes, tell them straight. Tell them exactly they mistakes the have done. Don’t try to please them now because they are ready to know their mistakes. They might be excited to know how they can improve at this stage. Just tell them straight.

5. Get their promise
Request them to promise they will not let the same mistakes happen again. Tell them straight that you will punish them if they do it the next time. They are happy to promise and they will promise to improve themselves too.

If you are following the steps to approach these situations, you will create productive workers and positive environment to your team or worker. Always remember not to react every time because it will only cause more problems than benefits to everyone including you.

One Response to “Pointing Out Mistakes Powerfully”

  1. Hmm…I can see myself in this situation. More often than not, I stopped myself at the 2nd stage and I do not know how to proceed from there. My film crew sometimes are lagging behind the promised deadline. Now as a producer, it is my role to call on them if they’re lagging. I admit it is most uncomfortable to confront, but I’m going to practice these steps and see if it works.

    Practice, practice, practice.
